Hello, my name is Sofia Sunshine and I’m an independent recording and production (IRP) student at Berklee College of Music.
My first vocal lessons started at 10 with Amy Winehouse, Lauryn Hill, and Adele, in the back seat of my mom’s car while the radio played… Today, I’m an artist and mixing engineer who loves blending R&B and soul while exploring new sounds.
Through vocal competitions where I regularly placed first I got my first breaks. This eventually grew into opportunities with American Idol, the Houston Rockets, and at Carnegie Hall. These opportunities gave me the confidence to really believe music was a career I could pursue and thrive in. Now, with the lyrical and technical foundation I’ve built at Berklee, I’m able to create music with themes like family, empowerment, comfort, and reflection that connect across generations.
At Berklee, I’m the president of WMN, a club aimed at showcasing, spotlighting, and empowering women and non-binary students. This role allows me to create, market, and coordinate networking events and shows that bring women into the spotlight and give them resources to flourish in the industry.
In the future, I hope to bring my vocal, engineering, and production skills into studio spaces where I can continue to grow, collaborate, and shape unique sounds across genres.
As president, Sunshine curates a vibrant, inclusive community for women and non-binary musicians at Berklee—one rooted in collaboration, empowerment, and artistic excellence.
